What kind of tires are you lookin' at? Do you just like the 18" wheel that much or what?

Why not just go with a good 35x12.50 in a 16" or 17" wheel?

I am looking at something like this, although may go a bit narrower, but I am going to end up with a 33x11 or 11.5. I bought the Spidertrax spaces which at 1.5" should be all you need based on all the other threads on this topic. That will get you around 4.75" backspacing if my memory is correct.

You will likely need at least a budget lift if you plan on flexing as you are proposing about a 35x13x18 tire. Without the boost and spacers, you will most definately have rubbing.

Do a search and you should find a lot of info on this.

P.S. To go this tall of a tire, you might want to do some pricing on a wheel/tire package with 16 or 17 inch tires. The tires are cheaper in these wheel sizes, and I found that a mail ordered package from discount was within $100-200 or so when I got some 17" steel wheels and tires over just buying tires and spacers in the 18" size. Very close. Then you still have your 18" tire and wheels to sell, so in the end you can come out ahead just due to the cheaper tires.

33x11 or 11.5 will fit with no spacers.

Not necessarily.

I realize this is just an example of 1 tire from 1 vendor, but I checked a 325/65-18 BFG AT, a 35x12.50-17, and a 35x12.5-16 from 4WP.

18 - $357
17 (315/70) - $254
16 (315/75) - $221
15 - $185

As you can see, if you drop an inch or two off that wheel, you can afford to buy new tires AND new wheels. Heck, if you're willing to find a 15"er that'll fit, you can save some $ for other mods, too!

He doesn't have to get BFG's. Cooper Discoverers, Hankooks, Maxxis, Summit, Kumho, etc., all get good reviews and cost around the BFG 17" for an 18" tire.

I realize that, my point was that for any given tire (or at the very least for most tires) a 17" tire will be much cheaper. I was just wondering why the search for an 18" tire when smaller diameters are cheaper. Maybe he just likes the 18" tire, I don't know...
