Default 33 inch spare

Got me a new set of P285/75R16's but began to wonder - will the new larger spare cause any issues with the stock tailgate mount?

No, this is not true...You should be good with a 33 on the back of the tailgate, most guys run a 35 on there with no problems. I would recommend getting the Daystar extended tire bumpstops though.

Will the Daystar bumpstarts help with these issues?

I haven't noticed any problems. I did replace the tire stops. Anything bigger and you will block your third brake light and overstress the stock carrier. 33 inch is just right to keep it stock.

I didnt even know those daystar stops existed. That might help with mine which when the tops off with no radio on i can hear it creaking. Probably wobbling too much on the back which is more than likely what causes some carriers to fail.

The Daystar bumpstops are cheap also.

That's what I did when I swapped my wheels for ProComps with 4" BS. I'm running the same size tire and they work great!

Just remember "measure twice, cut once"

I had to modify mine after cutting a bit too much off... had to screw back on a big chunk and slowly grind down the area behind it.

I did the Daystar bump stops also. They do help out alot....They dont let the tire bounce around which is what might cause the stress on the tire carrier and tailgate...

Oh oh, I guess I'd better order bump stops. I have a 33" spare. I did the tailgate reinforcement brackets.
