These are 17x9 rims on 285/50/17. No lift no rubbing.

I was thinking about matching this set up.
Love that rim/tire combo. Hopefully you meant 285/70/17 though. a 50 would be a very low profile tire - 4" in diameter less than stock.

I considered those tires myself but they don't seem to have the siping I need for all the snow and ice around here. I love the look of the rims, too, but they were a bit expensive for me at the time. Maybe one day I'll upgrade my steelies.

Are you sure about the no rubbing? Did you take it to full flex? If they are actuall 285/70/17 or even 285/75/17 then they are about the same size as my 305/70/16's that I can see would rub at full flex without my lift. In my picture above in the snow, I have about 1 1/2", maybe a bit more, clearance in the wheel well and about 3/4" to 1" from the bump stops touching each other.

This is not my Jeep. According to the shop that installed them, Fortec, they are 285/50/17. I thought it was wrong as well. He said they did this set-up for a dealer in Orlando.

I'd bet the dealer misquoted the size because I don't see anything close to that size offered from the Mickey Thompson website. That being said, I still think it is a really cool looking wheel/tire combo and I would have bought it myself had they fit my need and budget.

Other threads mention rubbing w/ 33"s and no lift such as here.

Good luck and take pictures when you get everything put together!

I'm about to throw a whole new monkeywrench into this topic. We're signing the papers on an Unlmtd next week and I'm the type to NEVER leave well enough alone. So....

(and right off the bat I know alot of people will scoff at this BUT...)

I don't rockcrawl, trail ride, or mud. My main staple of off-roading is in the sands of the OBX. (beer commercial beach riding... it just doesn't get any better than this!). I want to go WIDER on the JK with just a touch of lift. I'm thinking of going with a 33X14.50 on a 10inch or maybe 12inch wide wheel with 2.5 of lift but I'm not sure how close it's gonna be at full turn. It's a longshot, but does anyone on here run such a setup or anything similar !?!

BTW. Hi! I'm Chris!!!

chris i'd go for the 10", 12" might be too wide, and a shit load of rubbing i'd imagine. 14.50 would look sweet i think. i like the pitbulls check them out from what i hear they are supposed to release a radial so you can have that mean look on the street too. oh and spacers too, br0sef!!!

welcome to our little party

Yeah, I figured 12" would be a bit wide. I don't have mine to look at yet so it's hard to judge although the a 14.50 on a 10" wheel will definately be rubbing the frame (as it's gonna bulge like crazy). I've noticed everyone saying they are having rubbing issues and that spacers have fixed the probs so that lead me to believe that they are rubbing the frame at full lock. A 12" would pull the tire out more but they'll probably be kissing the flares like crazy. I'm just gonna have to take some measurements next week. I may even end up on 8 or 9" wide on a 12.50. Mine will (unfortuantely) be driven daily by my wife but hey... who could argue trading in the mini-van for another Jeep !??! hahaha

What sets off tthe ESP light when a lift is installed is the wheel alignment. your steering wheel has to be perfectly straight. have your wheels aligned. you should be fine.

With the lift you will have no problem with the diameter. you will need wheels with shallower wheel offsets or spacers for the section width.
But all tires are not created equal... tires sizes are not always what they seem... so the width is only one problem on the wheel end.

The last 33" tires I had were 33x12.50R15 and only measured (32.52 dia)(section width (12.51) compared to the stock BFG MTR 255/75R17 's that measure (32.06 dia) but has less (section width 10.03). All brand and sizes may differ so you want to get an honest diameter by doing the math. A tire calculater will help you there. You really have to decide what tread width you want for a footprint.
