Default 33s or 35s with a 2.5 BB

I'm debating on 33s with a 2.5 BB lift, or going 35s. I have a 6- speed 2011 sport unlimited. I would like to go with the 35s but not sure what else I would need to run them. Any pics and opinions are appreciated...

Same model and size lift here. Running 33's and wish that I would have gone 35's. Not sure how much this helps.

I think proportionally the 4 door need 35s to offset the extra length, and on a 2 door 33s look right.

Hey Man,

I've done TRUCKLOADs of investigating to get the most of your rig with the least amount of mods. I hope the below info helps.

You CAN fit 35's on 2.5" lift, provided you use a rim with 4.5" - 4.75" of backspacing. You may have a tiny amount of rubbing at full flex with the swaybars disconnected.

You CAN run 35's with NO lift if you get any kind of flat fender.

I have 1.6" of lift at the moment and am tossing up between getting another inch of lift and possibly having a little bit of rub, or getting the flat fenders and having none. The issues I have to deal with (legal) will most likely be different to yours as the road laws in Australia are pretty outrageous with what you can/can't do without your vehicle.

Good luck with your choice. From personal experience I had 33's and they weren't enough for me, so I'm now getting 35's. I think you'll find there's a few guys on here that wish they went 35's straight up.

All the best.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I'm leaning towards 35s, but I have a total newb question, would I have to re gear my rig to run 35s, in other words would I have tranny issues running such a large tire. I have a manual tranny if that makes a difference. Thanks for the info again, I think I'd rather get 35s and not have any regrets. I plan on getting new wheels to replace the stock ones, with at least 4.5in of backspace, probably 16x8s

For what it is worth I had a 2.5" bb with 35x12.5x18 toyo mts on an unlimited. I couldn't articulate fully without rubbing major on the rear fender flares.

No need to regear. You might look at getting the axles sleeved and c gussets reinforced. ($150 and 100 bucks to have it welded).
Do not get a lower numbered BackSpacing than 4.5" on your wheel as mentioned above. I have 4" BS and I have slight rub at full articulation, because of this.

I'm running 285/75R16 (almost a 33) with a 2.5" coil spacer kit and I am with the guy who posted a few above me; I would rather be running 35's and will be when these shoes wear out, even contemplating 37's... I have heard and read that to not lose too much performance you'll want re-gear. I know when I jump to my next tires I'll be looking at gears, beefing up the axles, and lockers, but that's just me. It's all in what you intend to do with the rig, but for wheelin' it's always better to get the largest tire with the least amount of lift (keep CG low but gain as much clearance as possible). My advice, don't waste your time with 33's but again it depends on what you plan to do with your JK.
