Default 33's or 35's...can't decide

I have an 09' JK with auto trans. The Jeep is my daily driver so I'm looking for a street-friendly tire that also looks aggressive.

My big concern is with driveability. Will I lose too much power rolling on 35s vs 33s?

I know it's shameful, but this thing rarely leaves pavement. Can I get by with just a body lift with 35s?

Thanks!

35's... Decision made.

Truth is, 33's aren't that much bigger than the tires you are running.

I would do a tereflex 2.5" coil lift and maybe cut you fenders and call it good.

Default Lift

I went with a 2.5" BB from RC and a set of 33" Dick Cepek FC 2's. They are a great all around tire. The problem is now I wish I would have bought 35's. Although for a daily driver, especially with any highway driving...I would stick with the smaller of the two, unless turning the O/D doesn't bother you.

35's Planman has a thread on this subject. With a few trims here and there, you can run 35s stock, especially if it doesn't go off road much. If you get 33s, you'll be sorry and long for 35s for the next 40k miles. Been there, done that!

33's would be a lot cheaper than 35's with a regear...

Dont waste your time with 33's. I should have listened to everybody as it would have saved me the money on the 33's. After a month I knew I wanted 35's.
My plan is to go with the Goodyear Duratrac's which based upon all the reviews here they are a good mix for drivability as well as off road use if you do eventuall get your rig off road. Good luck!

Tought decision. The 33s wont look hardly any different than what you've already got. The 35s will require a regear of the differentials if you want it to work right. If you don't care what it drives like you could get by without regearing I suppose, but you'll get 12 mpg instead of 16 to 18 mpg.

I really want to go 35"s as well. However, I won't be able to re-gear right away. (budget) Will I be able to live without the re-gear for a couple months? Unfortunately, I do alot of city driving (short trips) so my mileage is about 14mpg now. Is the power loss THAT siginificant? I'm not that hard on the pedal anyways. I really want to upgrade the stock wheels and don't want to wait 6 months to do wheels and re-gear at the same time. I would like to really hear from those running 35's without re-gearing. I know I will eventually do it, but can it wait? My alternative is to do the city-slicker look for now, which I am trying to avoid.

A lot of good replies and I appreciate that.

So, the concensus seems to be that I should regear if I go with 35s. I already drive around with OD off because my commute puts me in traffic from start to finish. Got tired of the tranny going in/out of OD constantly plus I'm aware of how that effects tranny heat.

Will I still need a regear vs just driving with OD off? If I go the regear route, what is a recommended ratio? 4.10? What will a regear cost? (other than voiding my unlimited powertrain warranty)

I know I'll eventually want 35s once the newness of 33s wears off. Just want to be well-informed before taking the plunge.
