33's with 4.10 gears and an automatic transmission
Hi everyone, I just bought an '07 2 door JK. It's an X with an automatic transmission. From what I've been reading here, the '07 with an automatic trans came standard with 4.10 gears. I haven't able to confirm that's what I have because the labels on the axles are gone, and I haven't received my build sheet from Chrysler yet. What I do know is that I have a 44 in the rear and a 30 in the front. Can someone confirm that my gears should be 4.10's?
Also, from what I've been reading, there seems to be mixed reviews whether 4.10's with an automatic are acceptable or whether I should regear to 4.88's. Will the 4.10's be okay? Will the 4.10's be a dog?
I appologize because I now this HAS to have been discussed countless times, but I haven't been able to get any definitive answers. My plan is a 2.5" lift with a set of 33"x10.5 tires.
TIA
Chris

I don't think you are right about the 4.10 being standard. It was an option in 07. You can check it by driving 70 mph and check the rpms and refer to the gearing chart. And yes 4.88-5.13 looks to be correct. Remember to measure the true height of your tires when comparing to the chart not the nominal size.

I stand corrected.
Negative......I bought a new 07' 2dr auto with NO tow package and I have 4:10s.
I also run 33" and altho nothing is really a substitute for regearing, it is a pretty substantial expense. I found that the Superchips Flaspaq tuner and an Airaid CAI made enough difference in performance gains to make me more than happy. You might want to try a tuner first and see what you think. If that's not enough then go for the gears. That way you'll still have the tuner which is still a great piece of equipment for your JK...IMO.

I also have an 07 with no tow package and 4.10's. You can run the vin on the Jeep website and see what gears your JK came with from the factory. Either way, I ran 33's on mine for a while with the 4.10s and it was fine. If you get a programer (like stated above) it will make it even better by adjusting the spedo and shift points back to where they need to be.

There is too much speculation on the 07's, too many different options were available. To be sure which gears you have, lift a corner, spin the tire 2 full revs and count how many times the driveshaft spins.
For your 'definitive' answer ---> there isn't one!!!
It is personal preference and tolerance. Drive it and decide if you think the performance sucks. No? Then don't worry about gears and go have fun. Yes? Then regear and go have fun.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Some people say it's doable, others say no. @ CA-JK, I'm registered on Jeep's website. Where I do run the VIN? I like the idea that I can see the service history. No skeletons in the closet.

Thanks to all for the replies!
