Default 33's on stock rims..again

Before anyone kills me, I've searched for it..but Is anyone running 33" (specifically Nitto Mud Grapplers) on the stock 7.5" wide 18" Sahara rims? I was all set to order some today, but noticed they are for either 8" or 9" rims (can't remember). Can I still run them or do I really risk blowing a bead ? Better the get 15" or 16" rims instead ?

For a 7.5" wheel the max recommended tire size is 11.5". To go to a 12.5" tire you need at least an 8" wheel to make the manufacturer happy. If you put a 12.5" tire on a 7.5" wheel the chances are you are not going to have any issues, but there are some real safety and liability issues associated with doing that. Some tire shops will not mount a 12.5" wide tire on a 7.5" wheel for liability reasons and some will. You insurance company and the police might give you grief in the unfortunate event you have a tire related failure if you don't follow the manufacturers recommendations. Lots of people run 12.5" wheels on 7.5" wheels and have never had an issue. Also, the equation does not change for 15" of 16" wheels it's the width that counts.

I just did this thread last week, everyone was very helpful and the Nittos are highly recommended. I'm considering them or a few of the others. Search again to find my thread.
Best On/Off road tire for stock 18's?

I ran a set of Terra grapplers for a time on stock steelies. 305/70's. They come out to only be about 12 inchs wide though. I think you would be fine if you went 12.5 but there is a risk involved. I know that really didn't answer anything...but I guess you'll either have to take your chances, order a more narrow tire, or buy new rims =\

The biggest risk would be from running on the freeway for long distances. If you just go off-road and run around town there is less risk.
