Default 35" tire and C' gusset question

Hi guys, I just put teraflex coil lift 2.5" lift and 35x12.5-18 trail grappler on my 2010 jk unlimited. And my question is should I do the c gusset right away or it's ok wait till two more month when I do the regear? And I just drive on street now not offside yet. Thanks

this is a very subjective question.. I've looked in to this quite a bit over the last few months and on here they recommend upgrading, however, I went to my local off-road shop and the guy there has said he has never seen a broken 'c' in his 40 years of wheeling.. so in my opinion it comes down to preference. its a cheap upgrade that adds security while wheeling, so required, no... recommended, yes.. I've been running a similar setup for over a year with no upgrade and am just fine (knock on wood). minor to limited off-road.. goign to really test it out this weekend..

for the record I was also told my tie rod and drag link bushings are sloppy and I should replace those soon too.. its really hard to predict what's going to wear out first and need replacement..

The joys of being a Jeep owner I guess....

It isn't broken C's you need to watch out for, it is 'bent' C's. (take a look at them and you will notice just how tall and thin they are). Once they are bent, you will be looking at installing offset balljoints, ($600 per side is the figure I have seen posted) and depending on just how far bent it is, offsets may not even help. If offsets can't fix it, I would guess that you are looking at cutting the c's off and welding new ones on, or swapping to a new housing?

This is why you will see the "cheap insurance" saying so much in the hundreds and hundreds of threads asking about gussets.

I'm going to revise my quote to say "damaged" in lieu of bent or broken.. the gist of it is that it is not required.. highly recommended yes.. but not required.. as with any mod you run the risk of further damage to something else.. but once again.. not required..

stop worrying... you'll be fine. Especially if your street only. My brother has been on 35's with no gussets and wheeled numerous times and hes fine. Your c's can bend but it seems that youll take care of them soon enough
