I believe that TEEJ has all of the calculations. I think that he says that, with what is available, 4.88 will get you closest to stock mpg.

Default Well covered subject...

This is a subject that has been discussed quite frequently on this forum. Basically it comes down to personal preference.

If you are looking for gas mileage, go for the 4.88's (that's what I have). If you want performance, go with the 5.13's.

I have the 4.88's and I am glad I got those. I don't need excessive power, and that ratio matched mine when it had the stock tires and gears. I am getting close to 18 MPG now.

Those that wanted performance opted for the 5.13's and from what I've read they are happy with them too.

Hope I didn't make the waters even muddier for you!

I am going to wait for 4.56 gears to come out. Hopefully OE will come out before the aftermarket. I do not plan on changing until after the summer. Right now with my current tires and 3.73 gears my rig is a pig for power. But, I am getting 16.5 - 17.0 mpg to and from work. Before the tire change and lift I was averaging 20.5 for the same trip.

Let's think about this. Regearing typically costs $1200+ once you throw in the price of labor. Say the gears help you achieve +2 mpg and you drive 10,000 miles per year, paying $3.60/gallon on average. It's going to take you 3 - 4 years to pay off those gears with the money you saved on gas. If you don't plan on having your Jeep that long then it doesn't make sense to regear, depending on the price you put on the increase in power. If you drive more than 10,000 miles per year you will pay off the gears faster.

And if you're looking for the best MPG... 36" tires = the opposite of good fuel economy.

Are 4.10 gears out of the question for 35"? I know clackey has that setup...

Even though this is my daily driver, I dont do alot of highway driving.....is this setup tolerable?

Thanks
