I run 35" procomp extreme mud terrains on 15" wheels on my prerunner and I love them. They hold up great when aired down and ride a little softer than 35s on 17s.

As far as the sidewall puncture goes. The extra 2 inches of sidewall aren't gonna have a factor in what will puncture it. If it'll puncture with a 15 it'll do the same with a 17. It's all in the tire quality and amount of plies the sidewall has.

I run procomp xtreme alloy 8069's with 3.75" of back spacing with no caliper issues. I also have 35x12.5x15 BFG KM2's on them. I love this setup. Tires and rims are cheaper, and the 10 inches of sidewall offer better rim protection on rocks. I also have no complaints about sidewall rigidity or ride quality. I can drive 85+ and take corners without feeling unstable in the slightest sense.
