Default 35's vs. 36's vs. 37's

Hopefully in the next week or two I will have all my goodies and can begin modding out my JK Rubi. It will have the FT 3" Ultimate lift, 1" body lift, and 3/4" spacers if needed due to settlemet from the winch/bumper. I have not yet decided on tires yet. I am trying to decided between these......

35x12.5x17 BFG M/T
36x13.5x17 Swamper Irok Radial
37x12.5x17 BFG M/T
37x12.5x17 BFG Krawler
37x12.5x17 Swamper Irok Radial

The Jeep is my third vehicle and offroad toy, so highway driving is not the primary concern. Gearing will be changed out to 5.13's.

When taking into consideration the cost, the weight, and the availability the 35x12.5x17 BFG M/T's make the most sense. But I want think I want bigger.........

Are people with 37's breaking stock shafts? I know I will break shafts with the 35's and probably even more with the 37's as I like to play in the rocks. Are alloy shafts available yet? Do the weight of the 37's overwhelm the stock steering gear? With the 3.8 are 5.13 gears low enough?

Any thoughts????

Anything bigger than 35's with stock gearing will suck bad. 35's is pushing it with stock gears. I have 35's, 4.10 and the auto. It is fine for the most part or when the overdrive is off, but with overdrive on and crusie set, it has to downshift a lot to keep it steady.

Auto. Over the years I've found an auto to be much easier to drive in the rocks than an stick unless you have VERY deep gears (read deeper than 4:1) in the t-case or dual cases.

Keep in mind the true overall diameter of each of these tires, as well as the actual section widths. Another important part in your breakage concern... is the weight of the tires you are looking at. I'll bet those IROK's weigh a lot more than BFG MT

I have 37's and stock gears (5.38 not shipping till August) and an Auto. Honestly it's not as bad as I thought it would be. It is not a speed demon (not that it ever was) but I don't see the need of driving 80 MPS in a lifted jeep.

Went 4 wheeling this weekend, and the 37's were well worth it.

Do you have a rubicon?

If not, 35's is pushing it on the axles on the X and Sahara, 37's may be a little too much for your type of wheeling.

That being said, If weight is a concern I woud go with the BFG's MT's, Other wise you other two choices are HEAVY ASS TIRES. The 37" Krawlers and 37" Iroks Radials are weighing in at about 95 lbs each IIRC, another concer for breakage.

The auto is more forgiving than the manual when going to oversized tires.

How is the auto more forgiving....the auto has a higher last gear...thats why its allways down shifting...At least thats what people have said on here, the 6speeds last gear is a little lower,
