Default 37" tire on stock gate !!!

This is a cheap fix till I can get rear bumper with swing out carrier........ I bought spare tire spacer that fits stock gate tire mount from Northridge, mounted my spare, took my drop hitch and flipped it upside down and bammmm. perfect, nice tight fit that I had to tap in with rubber mallet. Tire is not pulling on gate and the hitch is supporting the weight.

Doesn't the tire tread catch on the edge of the tongue when you go to close the door?

I just ended up getting the MBRP reinforcement brackets that go inside the rear swing gate and spread out the load.

Great idea!
I am very poor and was just going to dremel the rear stock bumper until the tire fits on the bumper to support the weight. My stock bumper is hammered on both sides anyway....and aftermarket bumpers are way spendy!

I had a 35 km2 and alloy wheel on my gate for a year. The week before i added my tire carrier, my hinges wallowed out. Now my gate sags and knocks and the only way to fix it is to put on new hinges. I would never run a 37" on a stock carrier. esp if its a heavy 37 on a steel wheel.

How often did you open your gate? Did you leave it open for a little while (more than 5 minutes at a time)? I'm trying to get an idea, not pointing a finger. I ran a 35" Wrangler MTR on my TJ gate for 6 years with no issues what-so-ever. The catch is that I opened the rear gate about 3 times a year since my "trunk" was filled with 2 10's in a box plus an Amp. Now that I have a legit rear cargo area, I tend to open the gate a lot more.

Yeah man get that thing off there as soon as possible. Especially if you do any real wheeling. My buddys 35 sheared right off his JK. Spend the dough and get a good bumper/tire carrier. Even the aftermarket carriers that fit on the gate still suck and flex the tailgate a ton.
