hey, so i'm moving up to 37's, and the wheels i'm looking at only have 4.75" BS however I want to run the 37" toyos which are 13.5" wide...so i'm gonna need more backspacing. The smallest spacers they make are the TF ones at 1.25" so that leaves me with 3.5" BS which is ALOT. sooo are there are smaller spacers? can I use the ones without studs attached? just the plate ones? Anyone know exactly what BS i need to fit the 37" toyos? Thanks all
DO NOT use the kind of wheel spacers that simply slip over your existing wheel studs as they are DANGEROUS. the only wheel spacers you should use are the kind that bolt up to your axle and then your wheels to it and these are typically no less than 1.25" thick. in fact, 1.25" spacers are the bare minimum you can go on a JK and at least for me, i needed to grind down the existing wheel studs a bit in order to make the fit. 3.5" of backspacing should do the trick for you as factory is 6.25".
they'll definitely stick out a bit but in my opinion, it's looks good and the wider stance will keep you more stable. some of the pics in my photo gallery where i'm still running walker evans beadlocks show what 3.5" of bs look like.
Im in the same boat as i have just switched to 37 inch mtrs on my full traction 3 inch lift. I am contemplating running spacers and was wondering the same thing. Its funny though that you mention bolt on spacers are the way to go. Coming from the 350z world the kind that slipped over the studs were the standard and the bolt on's were considered dangerous. Granted you did have to add longer studs to get them to work and they were hub and wheelcentric. I've noticed a big decrease in lateral stability though in the week or so i've had on my 37's. I had only slight rubbing but took care of that by centering my axle properly and adding a few washers to the steering stops.

I think its a combination of more sidewall and the jeep itself being higher due to the bigger tires. Keep in mind my "35's" were the old bfg mt's and when they were new only measured 34 inches. Now the mtr's are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay bigger thus giving me around 2 inches more height.
Ok gotta chime in on this one ....
Was running the Toyo 285's on stock rims .... drove awesome on the road, no balance issues, 70 mph smooth.
Based on my experience with the 285's, I decided on the Toyo's 37 x 13.5's for my upgrade. First they are damn heavy guess that is good and bad. Strong tire, long wearing, but what a pain in the a$$ to put on and take off HEAVY! (which I seem to do alot for some reason or another).
I bought AEV pintlers for rims ...... approximate backspacing is 4.7". With the 13.5's needed the spidertrax 1.5" spacers to clear the adj. rear upper control arms (brand is clayton, very heavy duty, much wider than stock). I could have got away with a narrow spacer if one was available but the smallest I found was 1.25". I currently have about 1.5" clearance between the control arm and the tire with the spacer installed.
Don't forget about that heavy spare tire..... what carrier are you going to use?
One issue I have is with the tire hanging out from the stock flare. Currently 3" which makes for alot of crap up the side. In some states they have laws concerning how much tire can hang out ...... My state is 4", some I have heard are zero.
If I had to do it again I would find a better rim that would pull the tire in another 3/4" and eliminate the spacer .... pintler backspacing 4.7" - spacer 1.5" = 3.2" current net backspace + .75" target, would be about 4" optimum target backspacing for a new rim.
I would also strongly consider a 12.5" wide tire. May help it drive better.
Although I'm still working out the caster/toe/balance settings, the Jeep now drives MUCH worse, not a one handed drive, with some obvious tire balance problems to be worked, but getting better the more I screw with the details.
