Default 37's or 40's on a 9k budget?

i have an 08 x 4x4 auto with the tow package (3.73 i believe) that currently has 33's and a 2.5 RC BB. i want to completely redo it and go larger. can i get this done at less than 9k without cutting myself short on something? do i need to change out my front axles to handle the stress? i like the look of 37's but every time i see someone on 40's it makes me jealous. i only use my jeep for mudding (occasionally) and fishing (all the time). i know i will need to re-gear and a new lift but what else?

I have a rubicon. I am also CHEAP and I shop around or do it myself.
Once I complete I will have about 9K invested. That is with me doing most of the labour...

EVO gussets and skids (homemade and welded on myself)
EVO axle sleeves (purcahsed from evo, weld in myself)
EVO style tire carrier (purchase components and make myself)
Stubby front bumper
Teraflex 6" long arm (installed myself)
5.38 gears (shop installed)
37" brand new mtrs (5) that I got for $1000 (STEAL!)
5 KMC addict wheels
Redneck Ram assist steering

Once I get all of the above I should be able to pop some 40's on. If I had to pay for the labour or if I didnt make the above myself it would be closer to 15K. And if I didnt have a rubicon id need to buy the axles and transfer case to give me the grunt on the trail thats another 4K there pushing it closer to 19K.

If I was you id either sell the X and get a rubicon and spend 9K on it. Or stick with 37's.

Just my opinion......

Im curious what others have to say....

I don't think you'll realistically be able to push 40s on a $9k budget. You can drive 37s on stock equipment if you bolster it; however, anything larger, I'd bet would require new axle assemblies, which'll probably run you around 12k. If you're just looking at the lift and tires to get to 37s, you're probably looking at the following if you do all the labor yourself:

Gearing - 400
Gussets, sleeves - 200
Alloy axles - 1200
Driveline Front and Rear - 1200
Lift (you could with stock or long arms) - 2000-3500
Tires - 1200-1500
Wheels - 750-1000
Tire Carrier - 500-1500
Total - 7450-10,500

Also, if you're going to want lockers and you're not gearing yourself, I'd recommend saving up to having them installed at the same time.

Good luck!

i've thought the same thing myself. already in my head, i've changed my mind from 35s to 37s but I wonder if would want 40s eventually. I was thinking 4" teraflex with 37s and 5.38 gearing. I'm guessing I will need a front driveshaft but what else in necessary? I'm ballparking the project at 7 grand including labor costs assuming 2500 for the lift (installed) 1500 for gearing (installed) 2500 for wheels and tires and 500 for front driveshaft. What else will I need?
