Default 4.10 gears or 4:1 T-Case

So I've got an X and I've been doing a lot more wheelin lately. We've been hitting up some rocks, and I would like to slow my crawl speed down a little bit. Would it be more beneficial to throw some 4.10 gears in (from 3.21s) or to try and find a Rubi T-case for the slower crawl ratio?

I would go with gears, and if you're going to do that swap maybe look to go higher (numerically) than the 4.10s (maybe 4.56s). Maybe more if you plan to go up in tire size. This will have the added benefit on-road that the t-case won't affect.

spending the $$$ on regearing just to go to 4.10s is a waste.... you cna't go wrong with a 4:1 and later you could always regear if you go bigger on tires.

I pondered this very question for some time. The cost would be similar. I decided to go with gears as I'd enjoy the benefit all the time and not just one the trails and the offroad improvement should be similar.

I just read your sig and you are already running 35s... so gears would be first. I was thinking stocker tires.

Thanks for all the replies guys. The reason I'm thinking 4.10 gears is because I don't drive with 35s everyday, I normally drive on the 32" Wranglers (soon to be stock Rubi tires), so I don't want that high of gears for when I'm mainly driving around on those. Plus I can get them for cheap, and the dana 30 limits the size gears you can get (right?)

Wow that sounds like a lot of fun switching tires to wheel, man you are dedicated lol, no way I would do that. Do you do it just to have the tires last longer or for mpg?

The dana 30 does not limit the gear size but your carrier for 3.21 has to be changed to goto any other size gears. Its only 65bucks and Northridge has it.

I see you can get them cheap but what about getting them installed correctly?

I only take 20 minutes with an impact wrench. Better driveability, less noise, better MPG, don't have to re-calibrate speedo, plus the tires are kinda old so I don't trust them for everyday use.

I didn't know that the carrier was the limiting factor on gears, and since its cheap, no problem replacing my stock one. I know a few people who install gears and have put lots of miles on them without issues, so their work is good and wouldn't charge me much.
