Default 4.25" or 5" bs

Anyone have wheels with 5" of BS? The wheels I want come with 4.25" or 5". I dont want to rub too much, but I also want to pass inspection, so my wheels can't stick out too much.

assuming you're just running 12.50 wide tires, 5" will keep you inside your flares for sure. 4.25" will push your tires out a bit but if you can get away with it, i would recommend it instead. at 5", things can be tight and you may see some rubbing of the sway bar links up front when disconnected.

I had the same question when I bought my wheels. Most of the wheels I looked at came with 5" but the ones I went with (Black Rock 942) gave me the option. I decided on the 4.25 (well, Quadratec kind of persuaded me to go that route with the phrase.."why would you want 5" backspacing?")

I have a 2.5" TF coil lift and went with 35" tires and 16" wheels. From what a lot of people told me is that wheels with 5" of backspacing is the only way to go if you want zero issues with rubbing on your flares at full flex. With 4.25" you may need to cut your flares or replace them if you plan on wheleing and going full flex. Wheels with 5" will have a different rubbing issue as explained above but that can be fixed by adjusting your wheel stops (or something like that).

I decided to go with the 4.25 because it does give a slightly wider stance and, in theory, a little bit more stability.

Out of curiosity, what wheels are you going with?

I really don't know what wheels I'm going with. Everything I want is back ordered. Any chance you have some pictures of your Jeep you could post up? I'm also doing the 2.5" TF coil / 35's and seeing how far your tires stick out would really be a help to me. Thanks!!!

I have some pics..maybe not a great representation of how they look since my driveway isn't that flat! But this should give you an idea about how much they will stick out and how these specific wheels look. By the way, Quadratec had everyhting in stock when i ordered a few weeks ago. Had never considered Black Rocks before as I was going with either Pro Comps or Craggers but decided to go with these instead. Even came with the center caps!!

The wheels stick out maybe 3/4"

I'm going wheeling tomorrow so it will be my first time trying my new setup. From what I've been told it's a mild trail but I will try my best to find a spot to try and full flex to see if I get any rubbing on the fenders.

Worst case, I get rubbing and potentially rip the flares to shreads. Best case, the Teraflex bump stops that came with the kit prevent that from happening! I know someone else with a similar setup and those bump stops seem to work for him.

Either way, when I decided on the 4.25" BS, I figured a fender mod would be in order no matter what as I like the look of either cut down flares or some of the aftermarket ones. Dealing with rubbing underneath that I can't see.....well, I didn't want to deal with that!

My bigger concern is not with rubbing from the wheels/tires but with my front driveshaft and tranny skid! Damn 4 door auto Jeeps!

Good luck with the new wheels and let us know what you decide to get for tires. That was a harder decision for me. I'll post back here after my ride tomorrow to let you know if I had any issues. My guess, if I do have rubbing issues, the guys I'm riding with will be hacking my fenders down right on the trail. Pretty hard core guys with superhero like mod skills!
