4.56 gears with 33 inch tires anyone?
I am new to the site and I hope to get an answer from someone that has the set up that I am interested in. I have a 2007 x unlimited 6 speed, and I am thinking about regearing. I have read a ton of information and it seems that everyone has different opinion on what gear ratio is best for cetain tire size. My situation is that my jeep is a daily driver and i go off road every once in a while but would like to start going more. More importantly, I tow a 3,500 pnd bass boat. My 6th gear is useless and 5th struggles. 4th gear does great but at 70 mph on the hwy is turns 3100 rmp's getting about 10 mpg Boat ramps are a whole nother story. To make it worse i am here in Florida. Havnt seen a real hill in 20 years. I am going to upgrade my stock 32's tires to 33's. My jeep has the 3.21 gears. Will 4.56 gears be two much gear and will my rpm's be to high at 70 mph in 6th gear or 5th on the hwy eating gas? Will i also lose 1st gear? Are 4.10 gears better suited for the 33 inch tire. Dont plan to go above 33's I know 4.56 were not available for some time and most of the opinions were from folks that were not actually using them. Thanks
Struggling w/ the same delima.
I feel your pain. 3.21's suck. (I have 32's too) - Don't tow any thing now but I plan too.
IMO a 4.56 will be perfect for a 33" setup, w/ a 6 speed.
BUT, You know your rpm's and how it performs now.... Find a gear ratio calculator
plug in the #'s and see where you want to be.
How often do you take that boat to the river? 4.88 will prob be better for towing. Think
about it, its not that much difference.
BTW - Welcome to our wolrd

I'm guessing the 4.56's would be a good solution for you, especially if you have an Unlimited and will tow frequently. I have 4.10's and still the stock 32's and I think it's just adequate, and I have a two-door.

I am running 4.10's with an Auto on 33's. IMO it has everything i need for daily driving & mild offroading, but towing? Nope. I borrowed a trailer to haul about 25 pairs of sheet rock & some 2x4's, and it stumbled all over the place.
Using a gear calc, the right numbers to keep stock performance FOR ME are 4.56.
However, I too once said i would never go higher than 33's. Now, I am saving for 35's when my 33's are toast. In which case 4.56 would not be enough.
.....The bug may bite you too.... just a fair warning...

I will put in my .02. I have 34's and 5.13 and to tell you the truth I wish I could have got 5.38 or something. The Jeep is over all better; however, being on CO she still is not in her sweet spot driving 50-65 MPH which is what I drive.
Me, I say go 4.88 if you have an auto.
