Default 4.56 gears FTW!

All I have to say is I am very happy with my gear choice. Last week I had my lift, gears and tires put on. With my 315 duratracs the 4.56's are so nice. Especially after running with 3.21's and stock 30" tires. I'm easily using a gear higher than I was before. Less down shifting is nice too.

For a daily driver it seems like the perfect match. I wouldn't want to run higher unless I was setting it up more for offroading as opposed to daily driving.

I'll update after I get some more miles on it. I've only put about 50 miles on the truck so far.

Please do I have been thinking with going 488 but I drive most of the time above 70 so 456 mite be better.

Going the same route with my manual this week. Nice to hear that you are happy with this setup. Enjoy your Jeep

Thanks guys. I will keep you updated.

Rafi, I got my gears done at Rob's Automotive in Dudley, MA. My JKU is a manual.

If you're from Boston, I'm pretty much in the middle of no where. About 20 minutes south of Worcester.

He charged $400 an axle. I ordered the gears from Superior and had them dropped shipped to him. I'll be at $1625 for gears, I also had to order a new carrier for the front since I had 3.21's. Looks I paid right in between on the prices I've seen here. If I ordered 4.88's it would have been even cheaper. About $150 or so.

Keep us posted, I'm planning on going the same route as you. Tire size -315/75 R16 Wrangler Dura Trac and 4.56 gears. Speed limit around here is 75, so 4.88's might be too much.

I'm glad to hear it went well. I have 37s and went with 4.88s which in my eyes has been perfect with the 6spd trans. I glad to hear that the 4.56s are working good. If I had gone with 35s that would of been my choice. I can tell you that if you some day choose to go up to 37s I don't think you would be dissappointed. At times I definately feel that 4.56s could easily of been plenty for my 37s.
Before anyone goes off please realize we are talking about 6spd trans here...not the auto, that is a completely different ballgame!!

37's here and been running 4:56 gears for about 500 miles and couldn't be happier. My rpm's tach at about 2400-2600 in 6th gear going 70mph on the highway.

I'm happy I stumbled onto this thread. I have a 6 speed and getting 35's soon and was going to wait a bit and see how my 4.10's performed then go through the process of deciding on 4.56's or 4.88's...

The 4.88's will make up for not having a 4:1 TC a little better than the 4.56. If I had the $$ for a Rubi TC I would have went with 4.56 too.
