Default 4.7 swap?

Has anyone considered this?

Seems like it would the right amount of power for the 4 door. Descent mileage. Also seems like you might be able to do it a lot cheaper than a hemi - possibly use the existing tranny/radiator/etc..

I'm interested in this as well. The new V-8 in the durango puts out ~300hp and 300+ torque. Probably lighter than a HEMI, too!

It is actually ridiculous Chrysler has not done a 4.7 Wrangler yet. It would get better gas mileage, sound great and have all the power anyone would need.
They should have noticed by now the crazy money we are willing to part with for a v8, supercharger...

Agreed. Tough to justify the Hemi when you include tranny, harness, exhaust and labor.

Also, if they're killing off the Commander there should be plenty of 4.7's to go around.

I have literally had a dream about a V8 in my rig. "It's a Jeep thing...."

You could probably just find a wrecked one in a jy somewhere and snatch up all of the parts! Probably best to try to find a RAM1500 or wrecked commander, or even a wrecked GC!

The 4.7 shares nothing in common with the Wrangler V6. Nothing. Doing that engine would be just as expensive as a HEMI.

Thanks for the input! What exactly do you mean by shares nothing with the 3.8? What does the HEMI share with it?

Nothing. That's my point. To get a HEMI you need transmission and all....same with the 4.7. You can get one or the other for just about the same price from a salvage yard, so why go with a 4.7? Besides all that, no one makes anything for that swap. There's more than one company offering kits for the HEMI.

I disagree with the mileage comment. My 04 WJ with the 4.7 got pretty much the same mileage as my JK. The WJ was more aerodynamic, and lighter than the JK.

I'd say mileage would be worse than the 3.8
