Default 4:88's or 5:13's

I'm going to be regearing my jeep soon. I have an 11 JKU Sahara with 3:73's Auto and running 35's. With the Pro Cal it's been livable for the last 10,000 miles, but I think it's time to regear. I'm looking for Real World Opinions here. I do a Lot of highway driving and only get off road once a month or so and I'm not doing any major rock crawling. From what I understand, in a dana 30 the 5:13's can be weak and I could run into problems later on in life. I have reviewed the charts and I know that they all say that 5:13's are the way to go, but I'd like to hear input from you guys on this matter. I know a lot of people like to pretend that they are rock crawling every second of the day and will say to go way to extreme, but like I said. I'm looking for real world views here. This is my DD and I drive around 50 miles a day mostly highway.

If your not putting tons of 4 wheeling torque on the 5.13's they will be fine in the d30 front axle... Your auto tranny really will need them with the 35's to get back your power. The problem with the little gears on the 5.13 pinion is with a lot of wheel spin and torque while mudding and such. As a DD, they are under a lot less torque

I wouldn't go any lower than 488's. Pinion gets to small and ur rpms will be way high on the highway. I have 488's and at 70 I'm pushin 2900.

I have your exact set up..... Don't know what the other guy who posted has but his rpm's seem high. I have Yukon 5.13 gears.
Sorry for the horrible iPhone pic but I just remembered your thread as I was getting off the hiway and rushed a pic while I was at 70 still. I'm not near 2900 rpm. I can take a better pic in 10hrs when I'm off work if you like. I'm always at about 2500rpm at 70.
Power lol it's a jeep but it's fine and mind you I'm using a Superchip even before I regeared and after the new gears I did not lose any mileage. I do 60/40 city/hiway driving.

ok, here is my .02...I have a D30 front and running 37's. My Rig is my DD, and only get offroad maybe once a month (Not nearly enough) I installed the 5/13's and aside from Yukon gears failing twice in my D44 rear end have had no issues with the Front. I re-geared when I went to my 37's, so cannot really comment on 35's with 5.13's. Although my opinion is go with the 4.88's for 35's. Mine is also a Automatic...

Have fun!
