It depends on application. If you are running fast in sand and mud and on pavement on the way to work then you will want more horsepower to turn 40s. If you are rockcrawling and have your axles and t-case geared right a lot of competition guys like to run 4 cylinder engines.......

Hate to hi-jack, but does anyone know if that silver evolution fastback hardtop is in production yet. The thing I hated most about the JKs was the squared off hard-top.

In all reality you could run 40's on stock driveline if you never wheeled it. My opinion is if you have to ask what it takes to run 40's you probably should either do alot of searching or just stick with 35's.

That was the problem I had with so many of the posts in this thread, not just yours. Yes, I used yours as the example. All we have is a bunch of opinions. The OP was looking for facts. There's only 1 member on this board that I know of running 40's. He would be a good source of info on this topic. I have an Idea of how it could be done, but what's the point...I haven't done it and don't KNOW. As for your earlier post, why would I care how YOU spend YOUR money? It doesn't affect me at all. I just don't like seeing a new guy ask a question and get a buch of stuff he wasn't really asking for that may or may not be accurate.

I ran 40's on my CJ. I can tell you from experience that you need beefier axles than D44s. That and lots of guys run big rubbers on the rocks without a V8, which is also fact. That was my only comment so bite me. (j/k by the way, I don't like biters)

More importantly, where can I get the cropped hard top on the silver evolution jeep?
