Default Which 40s? Which 60s

Just like the title says. I want to know your experience with different tires. I can only find about 4 brands that are made in 40 with a 17 in wheel. I could switch wheel sizes if I think I need to. A friend tells me the mtr 38s measure almost the same as other brands 40s. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Also; will 40s fit with 4 inch lift and a 1 inch spacer in the front? I am runner flat fenders btw.

I am putting dana 60s under it. Which 60s are the best for the $$$?

I run a true 4.5" lift with 1.5" in spacers and flat fenders and can barely clear a true 38. I run the new MT/R's in a 38x14.50-17. The 40's are a legitamate 2" taller. I had to cut 3" off my body do clear my tires with 38's. I almost bought 40's becuase the price difference for me was $80. I'm glad I didn't becuase I would have needed at least 2" more lift.

This being said, I run 12" of uptravel in my suspension with 38's. I could run 2" of uptravel on 40's and brag about how low I am with huge tires. It depends if you wheel the rig, or want to drive around town and have everyone oooh and awww about the looks of your rig.

So far as tires, it depends on what you want to do and how long you want your tire to last. I have owned many different brands of tires and the 39.5" Krawler is the best off-road tire, period. I've run the 37" size and currently run them on my TJ. But they don't last long. I believe the new MT/R is probably the best all around tire you could run. It's not the best at some things, but its good at everything!

Good luck!

Oh, and I run Dual D60s.

Given the choice, drop a full float in your rear. It's a few hundred more, but worth the investment.

If you go with 40's plan on at least hydro assist steering too, becuase my steering is tough on my box with 38's. I expect my steering to go within a year or two and I will be upping to hydro assist.

I was planning on the hydro. Good advice. I do alot in the snow and take a trip or two to Moab a year. I am currently leaning toward the mtr 38. I do wheel mine hard ten times a year and need it to hold up and perform well. I run flat fenders with 37s now with no bump stop extension. I hope I can run just a 2 inch extension with the 38s. It would still give me good up travel and a bunch of down travel. Thanks for the reply! Everyones opinion is helpful.

I have 5 inches of lift on my jeep running 39.5" iroks. I have 4.5 inches of uptravel and 9.5 of droop. All of which is usable. You don't need a ton of lift to clear 40s. Mine is not built for drving around town for ooohs and aaahs. They measure 38.75" tall. I am runnignn a dana 60 front and sterling 10.50 rear.

What backspacing are you guys running with your 38s and 40s with D60s? I called Currie, they said their front was 2.75 inches wider that stock and the back is stock width. That being said I'm thinking I can run anywhere from a 3.5 to a 4.5 backspacing. Am I right?

Also thinking about coilovers; 12 or 14s?
