Default 5:13 Yukon Gears - Purchasing From Dude

I'm buying Yukon gears and overhaul kit off a local guy tomorrow for $300 (Fit D30 and D44).

According to him they're brand new. Anything in particular I should look for? Haven't had much experience with gearing.

Thanks!

Are you thinking of doing to install yourself? You might want to reconsider.

I will most likely have someone else install.

i'm going to get 37's in the spring. Would also like the Eaton TruTrac in the front with some sort of selectable locker in the rear. The D30 in the front is going to be sleeved and trussed.

Off the subject a little, but I wouldn't bother wasting money on the D30 if you plan to run 37's. Save the money for a D44 or D60 instead. If you have to run the 37's on the 30, leave it open

I agree with this sentiment based on experience. Before I ever upgraded my tires, I sleeved and gussetted the front, added 5.13s, and added Superior alloy axleshafts front and rear. If I were redoing it, I would be upgrading the front and rear axle assemblies before putting on 37s. I wheel pretty gently, but I've still managed to bend my rear 35 spline axleshafts, and I'm actually going down to a 35" tire in the near future to save the stress on my drivline. Also, even though I gussetted the front before I added larger tires, my passenger side knuckles have still slightly bent to where the caster can't quite be fixed. I would definitely upgrade your front axle housing to at least a D44 - it's not too much more than upgrading the gears, sleaves, gussets. In time I'd like to go back up to 37s, but I probably won't do it before putting 60s under the Jeep.

They look brand new and the mastr install kit looks sealed. You should be good. Any good or experienced installer should be able to look the parts over and notice if something is missing. Looks just like mine did when I got my 4.88s.

No on the subject of 37s. I agree with the above posters. I'm running 37s on a dana 30 and 44. My dana 30 is gusseted and has heavy duty ball joints. I don't wheel hard and so far have over 35K miles on the set up. But I will say that if I break it....a prorock 44 will be next.

To bad you aren't closer to northeast Pa. The guy who did my gears charges 250 an axle and he did the gussets and ball joints at the same time, replacing the ball joints makes the install of the gussets much easier. He owns a high performance speed shop and has been rebuilding rears for over 20 years.
