Default 5.13's Explode

So here I am with my family in Cortez Co, lookin at all the Mesa Verde cliff dwellings. We

had a blast in the Jeep, even if it was all highway driving, about 550 miles. 300ish from

home.

Comes time to leave to head home and BANG. half a mile from the hotel.

No warning the front axle just locked up at 35mph. I am still Thanking God I wasn't going

70 or

their was someone right behind me. I've got around 4500 miles on new gears. After a

hour of stress (WTF do I do now) I called a U-haul company in Cortez, told them my story.

They got me a truck and trailier for $480

bucks. Walk to their store, 2 miles they already had it hooked up for me.

I got quoted

$1300 for a tow back to Denver and then a rent-a-car for $235.

The Guy that did my gears is totally going to fix me up.

Has anyone else had their gears lock up with no warning?

Let us know what the failure/cause was.

I'm glad you were near civilization and going slow when it happened.

Your gears locked up??? Definitely interested to hear what went wrong here...

Glad you're ok and the gear guy is hooking you up, but sounds odd. WHat brand were the gears? You do the overhaul kit when they were put in?

redrockin7 had his 5.13's blow a hole in his rear axle a month or so ago, but in his case it was one of the carrier bolts that had backed itself out.
