5x5 to 5x5.5 wheel adaptation HELP
Hey guys, I have some rims that are 5x5.5 that I really want to use (jeep JK bolt pattern is 5x5), I can get Spidertrax adapters for 99$ for 2, I would need 5 so figure 250$-300$ . ..
HOWEVER, I have a friend who works at a machine shop who says he can modify the new rims to fit the jeeps existing bolt pattern, this sounds scary to but could it work just fine? anyone heard of this?
Thanks! really looking for input

Re-centering? They just cut out the middle and weld in a new center section. It's popular with the hummer beadlock 16.5" rims, changes them to different bolt patterns so people can run the cheap military take-off 37's.
Guess it just depends on how much you trust him, how much he charges, and the condition of the rims. Probably cheaper just to buy some steerlies in your preferred size/

thanks nthinuf, I am using the jeep J8 wheels, so for that look I couldnt find anything that was right. He was talking about drilling the holes for the other lugs but what you are saying makes a lot more sense to me, It didnt sound safe what he was saying
There are some rims out there that come with a dual bolt pattern. So I guess if he spaces the new holes right, it would work. I just never thought about having another set drilled in to mine.
Wonder if the dual drilled ones are re-inforced or thicker or anything? And if so, would drilling a second set of holes in your current rims weaken them to the point of failure? Sorry bud, don't know anything about it, just kinda thinking out loud.
