Default 7-Pin Connector Mounting Options?

Anyone come up with a clever way of mounting a 7-pin connector so it won't get scraped off on the trail? I'm sure mounting close to the hitch would help as the hitch would take most of the abuse, but I don't want to go back and check everytime I scrape the back end a little.

I did see one photo on this forum where the connector was mounted right through the rear bumper, but I can't find it now. Any other ideas would be appreciated!

I'm trying to avoid this (sorry, skydyvyr):
