Default 7 pin plug for towing

Hi everyone, I currently have the quadratec 2" receiver hitch installed on my jeep. It came with a simple wiring harness that gave me the standard 4-pin hook up for a trailer.
question is: do they make a specific harness I can buy that's a plug and play 7 pin? I'm looking at getting a travel camper in the next year, and I need power to brakes, accessories and reverse lights.
Or has anyone wired their own 7 pin plug?
I'm looking to save mmoney, and would rather do it myself, than have an RV dealer do it.
Any info on wiring a 7pin hitch plug to the jk would be appreciated!
Oh, and it is a jku. Not that that should matter.
thanks!!

I've wired seven-pin receptacles to all of my trucks. Easy. Several companies make harnesses that just plug into your stock wiring harness, but they only connect the run/stop/turn circuit and you still have to connect the other end to the receptacle. Then you need to run heavy wires up front for the brake and charging circuits. Then another smaller wire for the reverse lights. Really, the adapter harnesses don't do much to save time for what they cost. Last time I looked I think they were around $40.00 to $50.00.

Mopar has a seven pin that is plug and play. Don't have part number but did buy one online for 65 bucks. It is two plugs for taillight assemblies and a power wire to battery. It is all heat shielded for muffler and engine compartment. If you don't want issues it is the way to go. 2012 and newer require trailer flash or you with throw codes. Or at least that is what the dealer told me. Probably bull crap. I had tow package already so not sure if that matters. I didn't see codes at all Sent using smoke signals

I agree. I used the The 4 way plug and play to hook into the tail light circuit and then ran the wires for the other circuits myself. Just take your time following the color codes and it is not hard. Do not skimp on the brake controller. Buy a good one and you will be a lot happier.

Okay, so I need the plug and play adapter from mopar, and a brake controller (some call a brake box?) .

Both can be wired myself? And that would be saving me money than going somewhere? Is there a right up somewhere that someone did, or some type of instructions that would come with the brake controller?

I'm in no hurry to do this....but now I know that I need a 7pin plug, and id rather do it myself.
thanks for the help!

Default 7-pin wiring harness

I bought the MOPAR wiring harness on Amazon - can't remember the specific vendor. Installation took a couple of leisurely hours one afternoon. I also bought my brake controller through Amazon but haven't yet wired it in. The controller should come with its own instructions. Install it after you have run the 7-wire harness to the rear. I did NOT use the OEM receptacle bracket because it is meant to attach th the underside of the bumper and would be extremely vulnerable in any offroading.

Another thing to consider if you're planning to tow is installation of a transmission cooler (if you have an automatic). I bought a clone of the MOPAR factory trans cooler but a few health issues have gotten in the way of installation. Lots of other trans cooler options are mentioned here on the forum

Thank you for the information.
Why install the 7pin plug before the brake controller?
And doesnt the jk already come with a transmission cooler? A little radiator in front of the main radiator? That's not sufficient enough for wwhat the jeep is already rated at?

And also, does my jeep need to be reflashed? I'm reading that it doesn't, that its just the dealership squeezing money out if me. And I'm reading something with the CAN-BUS system.
what's the can-bus and what does that have anything to do with towing a camper?

Why does the jeep need to know I'm towing something? I have a flashpaq, and there's a tow ssetting on it. So I can get beeter performance for towing

You probably already have a trans cooler if you have the tow package. No reflash needed. Can bus is controller area network and it's the communication network for your vehicle. Nothing changes here either. Get the mopar 7 pin harness. It's plug and play with excellent instructions. Took me a good hour to run the harness and hook it up. Get a good inertia style brake controller like a tekonsha. the accelerometers in the controller modulate the signal to the trailer brakes. Gives you the most control. I regularly tow my 3000 lb camper with this setup.

Excellent reply! However, I do not have a tow package. I had to buy an aftermarket (quadratec) hitch receiver. So that being said, I still won't need a reflash will I? I have a 2014 sport.
