Default 8'" or 9" Wide Wheels?

Wondering what the recommended wheel width is for 12.5" wide tires?

If you lookup the tires they usually give a rim range and/or ideal rim width.

Most 12.5's i've looked at want a 9" rim. Some go to 8 but 9 is the safest choice.

I was gonna go with 9" but my tire dealer said get the 8" so I did. No regrets, probably a better hold if you are down and slightly more protection from the rim scraping on something. Some guys are putting them on the stock wheels which is like 7.75 or 7.5" cant remember.

I run them on a stock 7.5. My last jeep had 7 rim and they worked fine on it too.

I love the 9" rim! The side wall isnt pulled in, and isnt flexed out. I think it is the perfect width...35x12.5x15 BFG's

I havent seen any steel wheels in 9" lately but you can make them

I'd just run a 8", they are easier to find, Cragar makes them as low as 37 bucks a peice!! from Jegs.com ( I just ordered some)

My ProComp wheels are 8" with 35x12.5x17 and that was what the offroad store said they have used with no problems plus is adds more protection from scrapes.

8's will be fine to run, they will hold a bead better while aired down.
