Default AC vent paint fail

I tried to do the six dollar dash upgrade a while back, and i guess i rushed it and didn't do it right. The paint on a few was uneven and bubbled. Now i want to redo it and also change the color from silver to red. What is the best way to strip the silver paint and get it back to the original plastic to re paint it red? Sanding block? Chemical solvents? thanks in advance

Don't strip the paint. Sand it down with a very fine grit sandpaper and spray again. It will adhere better that way.

^^^ what he said. I used one of those fine grit sanding sponges. It helps get those curves a little better.

Good advice there! I learned a long time ago that when it comes to paint, the paint job will only come out as good as the prep.

Yes, no need for primer if you are painting an already painted sanded finish.

Make sure the paint you use isn't translucent, i used the touch up spray paint from advance and sand able primer to make sure it was smooth... I sanded the primer and didn't respray the places the plastic showed through and you could still see the places no matter how many coats I put down, put about 8 of them on before I got pissed off and quit a couple days, sanded and started over. I would imagine if you're painting over black and the paint is translucent it would greatly alter the color.
