Default Actual lift height

This might be an amazingly silly question but I haven't read anything about it.

All of our Jeeps come with a factory rake to them - usually 1 inch lower at the front. And most lift kits level out that rake. What this amounts to is usually 1 inch more lift in the front compared to the rear (sometimes more if it compensates for the eventual winch)

My question is: which measurement (front or rear) is referring to the advertised lift height? For instance, if you have a 3.5 inch lift kit and you get 3.5 in the front and only 2.5 in the rear, is your actual lift considered 3.5, 2.5 or the average of the two (3.0 in this example)?

I think they go by the front measurement. The rear springs are normally shorter

I think they average the front with the rear.

Hmm... So my confusion is not unfounded. I was about to agree with Ryan but now I'm unsure again. Would appreciate some of the vendors chiming in.

The reason they use the front amount is to factor in the factory rake. Many lifts are under rated anyways. My 3.25" lift gave me 4"
