Add rear axle tube seals to the list! As some of you might know, I'm pretty much stepping up to a new level with my jeep - Gears, 37's, front DS, diff covers, rock sliders, etc... While my mechanic was working on my baby, he gave me a call to let me know I got slight leakage on my rear axle towards the brake - fluid kinda all over. Not all that bad, but enough to cause concern. So, yea.... while he's at it, I guess I'm gonna have him replace em since it just makes sense to do it now while it'll be apart.

He also mentioned its a lot more work to do the rear as supposed to the front, so while its bad its leaking or its happened, its good to just address it now and fix it....

Your guys thoughts/input?

if oil can leak out, water can leak in and yes, it should be fixed sooner than later especially if you wheel your jeep in water and mud. having said that, i personally find the fronts to be a lot more work to replace than the rear. so long as you have a shop press, the rears aren't too bad. even if you don't, you can always pull your shafts and take them to a shop to do the hard work and then reinstall them back at home.

Yea, that is what he was telling me as the front runs dry. Or I believe thats what he said. I'm trying to learn all this as well considering I am "moving up" with the mods and going to be wheeling harder/more frequent. He did mention using a press for them, but as I mentioned before, he said they don't fail as much as the rear, right? Makes sense since the front is free if not in 4WD? Am I making some sense outta this? I'm tryin' here...

Also WOL, these are the seals he is talking about that would need to be replaced, right? With these or a similar seal/brand?

Well, there ya go....hence the reason why I posted. Thanks for the clarification. Regardless, he has the parts in the shop and will replace. Question is, is he going to replace both or can you just do one? Yea, I can call and ask him, but I thought I'd ask here too. Probably is the proper procedure to do both then, huh?

BTW - I might make a pork shoulder this week considering its supposed to be so nice. I'll keep you posted.
