Default Adding Headers

Bout to do an exhaust upgrade to my jeep but have been told that adding headers along with exhaust should take place. Whats the advantage of adding headers? More power and/or torque?

Yeah but not like your going to get a huge improvement. Most of the time you don't feel the HP increase

You will feel an increase with Ripp Headers. 35ft lbs of torque and 25 HP. And it is noticeable. The only downside if you want to call it that is the cost. I don't regret the purchase one bit.

If you do not buy Ripp Headers I would not buy anything and just stick with your stock manifolds. You initial question was "what is the advantage of adding headers"? None if you buy shorty headers. So do not waste your money. As the above poster mentioned. You get a set of stainless headers, two high flow cats, and a diablo sport tuner for around $2000. If you want to give that 3.8 a boost the Ripp's are the only headers that will do it.

I did a lot of research about headers on this board and others. A majority of the time people were removing the shorty headers or they were complaining of heat issues that melted the battery box and/or spark plug wires 4 & 6. Search for yourself and see. You will find I am not exaggerating. There "may be" people on this board running shorty headers without problems but they still won't have any gains worth mentioning.

I would recommend that if you don't want to purchase the Ripp headers don't do anything. JMHO

Thanks, SergeantChuck for your info. I appreciate it. I'm not a rock crawler and don't plan on being. I use my JK to get me in the back trails of the Rocky Mnts and have had no problems running 33 tires and going where I want. Hoping to add some HP but not looking to spend 2k on headers. I get 16 mpg road trip'n and cruising in the mountains. I'm cool with that.
Thanks again for the info.
