Question Adding Hitch

Does anyone know if the Mopar hitch is truly a drilless install? Or, does the exhaust have to dropped for install?

I am picking up my FIRST Wrangler Monday and will need a hitch for my bike carrier! Thanks for any advice you can give.

I can't say about the Mopar, but the ones you can buy from Quadratec are 4 bolts without droppoing your muffler and cheaper than Mopar. I have installed 2, the only thing you might have to do is chisel or file or grind the weld splatter from the frame so the hitch can slide up on it, first one I did, didn't need it but the second one did. Easy job.

Jim-

Thanks for the response and advice. I did see that hitch as well, will probably go that route as it is cheaper.

Monday 3PM cannot get here quick enough!!!

Thanks again.

It is drill-less.
Hidden Hitch makes a good aftermarket hitch. I've used them on some other cars.

You might have to take the bumper off with the Mopar or any aftermarket hitch.

I added the tow package right before my build went through.

I bought this one off of the lot, was too impatient to order it. Plus this one was cost effective as if I ordered it I would have put more "goodies" into it LOL.

I don't plan on towing with it, although you never know, but I have this4 bike hitch mount Thule rack which I would be lost without in the summer as I usually carry three bikes with me every weekend.

I only use my hitch for bikes as well and have always put aftermarket hitches on my SUV's. Mainly, because car companies charge a fortune. But Jeep was only another $50 than the aftermarkets. Also, at the time this option gave you better rear shocks.

I didn't know that about the shocks. I can always upgrade them later though. Thanks for your input!

Have fun driving your Jeep on Monday.

These are the installation instruction to the Hidden Hitch I was going to get.

I just picked up a Mopar OEM hitch assembly and it looks really easy to put on. I picked it up at the dealership for $130, and with shipping from Quadratec, a hidden hitch was almost that much.

The diagram above is basically how any of the hitches are going to mount to the frame of the 07. Just four bolts to bolt on. If you have a tow hook, you just take that off and put the hitch in its place. I have yet to put it on, but looking up there, it should only take a few minutes; no need to take off the bumper or exhaust.

One thing to keep in mind is the wiring harness. The Mopar wiring harness is $79 and according to Mopar, it requires a dealer scan tool to activate. The guy said it should take about a half hour of labor to do, so depending on where you are, it may cost from 40-80 bucks. I haven't picked one up yet because the dealership said they are on back order.

When I install the hitch and wiring harness, I'll tell ya how it went.

I purchased the mopar hitch and part number 82210213 for the harness (instead of the $79 7 pin harness). It was $40. It is a 4 pin and hooks to the receiver. Looks and works well. Does not require the dealer to do anything. I will try to upload some pictures tomorrow.
