Default Adjust shift points without regearing?

Has anyone with the AEV Procal entered a different gear ratio, in order to 'trick' the transmission into shifting at different points? After adding bigger tires and recalibrating the speedo, the OD is now mostly useless. Any sort of mild incline or a strong enough wind makes it downshift. My thought is this might help bring OD back into the equation. Any thoughts on whether it would work... or could it possibly damage something? Has anyone done this? Thoughts?

Changing the gear ratio on the computer is a dumb idea, you'll put the Jeep into limp mode. Why don't you "trick" the computer by inputing a larger tire size to adjust your shift points?

Not what you want to hear, but really your best bet is to regear. Welcome to the forum BTW. I think you'll find most posters to be a little less direct than the last!

I just E-mailed AEV and asked them the same question. The reply was do not do this. I have not had a chance to drive our 2012 auto tran, since the lift and tires were put on because i am currently deployed. My wife says since she reprogrammed with the AEV to match the new tires that the Jeep is running great. She is in a very hilly part of Missouri.

The OP has an '09. Hasn't it been determined the 42RLE doesn't care what it thinks is the gear ratio?

Reprogramming the computer to a different gear ratio won't change the load from the bigger tires. The transmission shifts out of O/D because the bigger tires are harder for the engine to turn. Only regearing will fix that.

I'm curious to see if this is in fact true. If nothing else, I guess I could always turn off the OD so it doesn't keep searching... Thanks for all of the info!

The only true fix will be to rehearsal, but keeping the overdrive off will stop the gear hunting for the time being.
