Default Adjustable rear seat? Or seat relocation?

Has anyone tried relocating the rear seat in a 4-door to be a bit further back to offer more legroom and ease of entry/exit? Between the smaller doors and foot room when trying to get in and out, it would be nice if the rear seat was another couple inches back. There's plenty of room so I don't see the harm. And it would offer fantastic legroom for rear passengers.

Has anyone tried relocating the rear seat? Is it even remotely possible without causing other problems? Is there anything aftermarket for something like this?

I really do not think it is possible unless you use a 2 door back seat and mount it similar between the wheel wells.

I looked at it today, and I have had my seats out before. The brackets are formed to fit the tub, and the only "easy" way I can see to move it back an inch or two and still have it funtion would be to put spacers under the mounts. Basically machine a spacer that has a stud in it to mount the seat to, then mount it to the factory bolts. This will bring the factory seat brackets up off the tub allowing it to move back a little and keep the seat folding completely functional. You could also have someone machine completely new brackets, but it would take a little R&D to get it right.

Forgot about the seat folding... but maybe if they were adjustable you'd adjust whenever you wanted to fold them down.

Just thinking out loud basically... would be nice to have some extra entry/exit room for adults.

Shouldn't complain too much -- I make people get in from the rear by standing up on the bumper and up/over the back seat on my TJ.

I am always up for some R&D. I would like to have some more room also, this is why I replied. I will play around with it on my free time and see what I can work out.

This is a very interesting idea. The seats themselves have plenty of room, however, the part that seems to suck to me is the seating position. Too upright and benchlike.

Awesome... I'll check into a bit myself. My friends are mostly fiberglass/carbon fabricators so may not be much help.

Would also be nice to adjust the backrest.

I do think it is worth investigating though. I tend to have 3 or 4 passengers quite often, that's why I bought a 4 door Jeep. Just want everyone to be comfortable and safe.
