Default Advice for a newbie

I'm planning to get a 3' lift for my '11 Sahara and will like to run 35' tires on 17' wheels. Here is are my questions
is this set up feasible for a daily driver? Would I be robbing my self of power? and one more thing should i spend my money on gears first?
Please advice. Thanks

Gears are a must imo.

I would say get gears. My Rubi is great for driving with a lift and 35's. I can drive in the hills on freeways with easy and around town and flat highway is a breeze.

manual or automatic?

If automatic you will be cutting into power but can still be daily driver - just don't expect mpg's to be good.

6sp tend to do better due to its closer gear ratios from gear to gear.

With both, depending on your gear ratio, you will loose top gear/OD unless cruising on flat roads.

before regearing, my auto with 4.10's and 35's ran most the time in 3rd to keep rpms in powerband. my mileage avg. 14 around town.

on freeway i stayed on 3rd unless pretty flat then would use OD - avg around 17mpg, made use of cruise control as much as possible.

additional mods - CAI, Performance Distributor, SuperChips 91 tune (gave better cost/mile than 87 tune)

It really depends on where you live and on the shop. I would expect to pay 1000-1700.

I have a 4 dr auto 35's and 3" lift.... Put the tires and lift on......I'd suggest a Superchip that will help...... Then drive it first for a few months a you'll see it's not as bad as many guys will make it out to be. I eventually regeared to 5.13's a year later. Good luck

Is yours a 2 dr or 4dr?

2 dr auto 4.88 if it's a 4 dr 5.13 and in my case my gas mileage improved a bit.
$1500 installed give or take is a good ball park.... I've seen guys get them way cheaper ..... but I stayed off my knees LOL just bug'n

I have a 4dr 6sp. I regeared and still run th
e 32s. That was my choice, couldn't see myself with 3.21 ratio on 35s. (think 3.21 6sp. = 3.73 auto or almost same).
The gears-first route was my choice...you know how yours is on the hiway, running 35s will lower the revs quite a bit. Check the chart.

5.13 / 5.38
There is a good rpm chart in the drivetrain section of the faq's. Use actual measured tire height, not mfg's spec. Once you get the rpm's for a tire/gear, divide the number by .69 to see what you will be at with OD Off.

$1000 - $2000 is fairly normal, just depends on location and the particular shop. Screaming Lizard and Lunatic in Dallas advertise for 1k. They both were very highly recommended in the past, but some recent posts indicate that people may be running into problems with them. I had a huge issue with 249 in houston, so I will suggest not only passing that one by, but running away. Just make some calls, and be sure to check warranties while you are on the phone with them.
