AEV Front Bumper crush cans and Fairlead
Hi guys,
Not sure if anyone noticed or asked bout this but I though I'd post the info. I like the AEV front bumper and noticed the fairlead seems to stick out as far as the factory crush cans. (it utilizes them) I sent an e-mail off to AEV about it they were kind enough to reply.
Me:
" I'm currently comparing front bumpers for my '08 Sahara and have aquestion about your JK front bumper. I like that the factory crush cans are retained for low speed impact protection/air bag funtionality. However, doesn't the winch negate their effectiveness if it sticks out just as far or close? It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks as though a front impact would hit the winch as well as the cruch cans. Since the winch doesnt crush, won't that negate the crush cans?"
AEV:
"Thats a common question. The crush cans are mounted directly on the tips of the frame and the airbag sensor is designed to measure a very specific rate of crush within that system and a specific load spike. The winch mount is designed to not transfer the load into frame with the same force as hitting it directly on the tip of the rail, even though the fairlead may stick out almost as far. (there is a lot of crush in
the fairlead itself.)"
