AEV heat reduction hood, SS mesh
I just installed a AEV heat reduction hood and snorkel and I am mighty impressed with the looks, however it has large holes in the bonnet (obviously to get rid of the heat) but it rains a lot where I live. The shape of the hood nicely funnels the water to the SS mesh as well. It must rain over there as well, any thoughts on this being detrimental for the engine?
No it won't be bad for your engine. You might be surprised how "wet" your engine gets driving in the rain anyway. Plus you can straight power wash it without any adverse affects besides a clean engine.
You will be fine.
One thing to note about the "stainless" grills. Make sure you either paint them or at least clear coat them ASAP. Otherwise they will begin to develop surface rust very quickly and it looks terrible and iis a bitch to remove. I made this mistake and had to remove them, bead blast, prep, and then paint them. It would have been a lot easier if I painted them from the beginning.
Love the hood, they look great. I have been very pleased with mine

Really like the hood. Looks great! Does the snorkel align with the side vent without more cutting? I would like to swap the snorkel in and out when I go on big wheeling trips. Would this be possible with your setups? Aside from jockeying the airbox.
Thanks

Yup, the AEV snorkle is supposed to fit the passenger side cut out with no additional cutting. BUT, I haven't pulled the trigger on the snorkle yet, so I don't know how easily it could be repeatedly removed. I would would just leave it on 24/7. It shouldn't have any ill effects when its not needed.
Thank you for the feedback, indeed we probably think the engine stays dry while driving through rain............ I am loving the hood and it really makes the car stand out (especially as there are only a dozen Jeeps in the country).
The AEV snorkel aligns very nicely with the AEV hood, I installed both in less than an hr. No cutting required in the hood neither the body of the jeep. The snorkel is easy to take off as well as it is held with two screws at the side of the engine bay (screws already there, so no drilling of holes required) and two screws at the side of your window. The snorkel 'mouth' so to speak can be easily remove from your air box. however you need to cut off a 'notch' which keeps in your standard breather tube, you might need to use a bolt and nut to keep your standard breather tube attached to the air box once you have installed the snorkel before. AEV is supplying steel mesh inserts for the left and right snorkel intakes so if you take the snorkel off you just insert the mesh and nobody will know you have taken off the snorkel.
I won't be wheeling a lot through water either and I am thinking about installing a K&N cold air intake (as I think the 3.8L V6 is quite restricted in air flow, the snorkel isn't helping) so or I keep the snorkel for the looks or like you say I switch and install what I think is best for the trip. Again easy to install and take out.
Best regards,
Mark
