AEV Install gone bad.. help and ideas needed....
Sooo.... I was installing the zerk fitting into the spindle housing and it snapped off at the threads. So I was like.. no big deal... grabbed an easy out and tried to back out the broken off section. The easy out caught and when I went to back it out... no go. The drill started spinning on the end of the bit. Then I tried another drill which held but wouldn't budge and the motor started smoking. Of course then I got the bright idea to hack saw off the easy out and remove that one with another easy out. Well after 2 hrs of drilling I can't make a dent in the embedded easy out. I'm assuming that I've f'd this part up enough that I'll have to call AEV and get a new spindle housing but does anyone have an idea on how to possible savage this?

Left handed drill bit. Ez outs are junk... You should be able to drill the center of the ez out with the left handed bit. It will grab at some point and spin the ez out out. Then do the same thing with your zerk. Left handed drill bits sound like muffler bearings etc...but I always have a full set in my box.. You will never mess with an ez out again..

Did you tap the hole for the zerk? I couldn't get it in to save my life, so I tapped the hole and everythin was good.
Instructions never called for tapping but there were no threads in the hole and I'm sorry but a bronze zerk won't self tap a steel hole.

Sorry for your problem, I had the same zerk snap. My son was installing it and just over tightened it. I also tried an ez out with no luck, did not snap it but was close.. I drilled out the zerk and ran a tap through it. It did take a way to much time to get it corrected.
Good luck,
