I am running stock wheels and tires but the stock wheels won't work without spacers on the teraflex lift I have. This is because the stock wheels don't have the proper back spacing required, and need spacers to prevent some pretty bad rubbing. Someone else could probably explain it better than me.

Last question: is the rail and pinch seam mod only really required under flex, as in, daily driving would not require any cutting?
Yes, TF 2.5" spring lift, 35s, and AEV Pintlers you do not need/want spacers.

Probably no rubbing with 33s. No rubbing with 32s, sometimes rubbing with 35s, 33s probably not.

Actually I didn't rub under flex - going too slow and there's enough clearance when going slow. It was always on the trail and I had to be going just the right speed over just the rights sized bump to rub. Maybe a speed bump in a parking lot at the right speed you may rub - I never tried.

Right, with just the lift and the stock wheels and the links in the stock position there's not enough clearance on the inside of the wheel, so you need spacers or correct wheels to keep from hitting the wheel on the links (see top of the link and wheel clearance):

You won't rub with 35's either. Disconnected and flexing I've yet to experience any rubbing with 35's on this 2.5" TF coil lift. The wheels eliminate the need for spacers as they have 4.7" BS which is essentially what you're at with factory wheels (6.25" BS) and 1.5" spacers.

I have the same setup 2.5" TF lift (got 4 door, which gave me a little more) with 17" Black Pintlers and 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers. I haven't even trimmed my pinch seams (yet). Been off road a few times and no rubbing yet.

No rubbing on my previous pics.

No rubbing here:

No rubbing here:

First time I heard, felt the rubbing was here. It's not more than a slightly bumpy trail, so I could drive a little faster, and when I would hit just the right small hill/bump at just the right speed it would rub for maybe 1/4 to 1/2 a wheel turn:

It was more of an annoyance that anything else, as it would only happen once or twice on a 4 hour trip. I basically got tired of the occasional rub so I trimmed my sliders and adjusted my pinch seam - so now I have one less little annoyance.

Default Lifts alone require more backspacing?

Before reading this thread I was under the impression that it was the tire size only that caused the need for more backspacing. So lifts move components outward that would hit a stock tire/wheel combo?

Thanks,

In the case of the rear sway bar link, the lift moves the top of the link to be even with the edge of the wheel, and you get the rubbing there. Look at the top of your stock rear link and compare it to my picture and you'll see the difference.

I also have a Teraflex 2.5" lift on my JKU and Pintler beadlocks wrapped in 35" Trailgrapplers. No issues flexing here either. Also never heard of anyone having issues.

Thread really wound up attracting some great information. Sounds good, I'll sell my spacers and save up for the Pintlers.
