Default Aev Procal - check engine light on

So I got a check engine light yesterday... I have the AEV Procal which is supposed to be able to turn off the light, but from what I gather it does not tell you what the code was that caused it. My question.... Is it a bad idea to clear a check engine light if you don't know what caused it to come on in the first place? Should I just leave the light alone and just take it in to the Service Dept. to get checked anyways?

Yes, it is a bad idea to clear it and leave it. Take it in to a shop that can read it and maybe cure the problem that caused it in the first place, unless you like to be stuck next to the road.

Take it to advance auto or a similar store by get have an obd scanner you can borrow to check the code that came up. You can then look the code up and turn off the light if you want to. If it comes back on with the sane code you know whats wrong.

If its just a solid light, it's not a major issue. If its flashing, it is a major issue and needs looked at ASAP.

The light is solid. Thanks for the recommendations.
