Default AEV Snorkel care?

I just had the AEV snorkel with pre-filter installed and after looking at it I have a few questions. First I understand that it works by cyclonic action removing the water and dust, but how about when washing the jeep? are you guys protecting from water getting into the snorkel? Also when wheeling do any of you find water getting in? It seems that if water were to splash from underneath it would just run down into the snorkel.

I have not gotten any water in mine while wheeling. I have splashed water well over the windshield and over the top and not a drop in the prefilter. When washing I am just careful not to spray directly at the bottom of the filter...again, no water inside....

Just a bit of advice....before you go get it all dirty. Get some plastic polish and do the inside and outside......first it will keep the scratches down, second it makes the dirt on the inside spin around faster.....I know it's stupid but I find myself watching the damn dirt fly around like a gumball machine all the time...

I may have a hard time explaining to the cops that I hit the car in front of me because I was watching dirt swirl around....

I think there is supposed to be some path for the water to drain out if it gets in? or is that only the ram air....I did see someone on one of our runs that had a little bit of water in their prefilter, just cant remember who

check out this thread, you should join us for the run, Pirate kitty is coming up from MD.

you could ask in that thread about the water also. and make sure you put hose clamps on the engine breather hose that connects to the filter box, one of the guys had his come off and had an inch of water/mud in his air box.

Thanks for the info....I know I have read many good things about this snorkel, but after looking at it I just started thinking about the design.

I could be wrong, I was once, my wife keeps reminding me....but I would think it would be much easier to get water in the Ram Air than in the PreFilter....

I have the pre-filter and have had no problems with any water getting in. I have read on here of people drilling small holes in the bottom of their pre-filters to let water out. I also have heard that in heavy snow, the snow will accumulate in the bowl. I think the ram air has vents on the back to let out any possible trail water or in heavy rain. Before wheeling you can turn the ram air backwards just in case too.
