It looks good and clean, but looking at the open hood pics, does it seem like the air flow volume would be heavily restricted as opposed to stock?

The part that enters the airbox is the same size as the stock "snorkel".
If air is restricted I don't think it is by much.
It did not feel any different driving around town or on the highway.

The only complaint that I have is that I wish the joints were a little cleaner.
But that is just me being kinda petty.

Ya, the pictures are a little deceiving. When I looked at the first few, you can tell how thick it really is. Then I reliazed that the AEV hood had a notch. Hmmmm, if it would have fit under stock hood (I know not possible) it would have been perfect.

What secures it in place around the hood?

What protects the paint around the hood area?

Did you happen to track your gas mileage before the install? It would be nice to have a comparison between stock and modified.

Can't wait to see the Ram Air top for it.

It may be a little resticted, but the colder air makes up for it and then some I'm sure. On an average car engine, you get 1mph for every 10degrees colder the air is. The difference between the outside air and under hood temps are easily 50 deg difference even on a summer day. I'd think you notice no difference.

sorry, i still like and would prefer a RR one over this. i don't want a lighthouse on the side of my jeep. and how does it seal the air box? does it come with a new one? does it give you sealent to plug all the wholes? the RR one comes with plates and seals to completely seal the stock air box up.

plus... you could hit a tree with the RR one and not even worry about braking it. plus... body matched paint.

There are two screws under the hood that secures it and then two on the windshield frame.

The brackets are designed so that it does not sit on the paint. There is about an 1/8" gap between the two.

I did track gas mileage before but have not driven it around enough with the snorkel on to compare.

AEV says to just use some black silicone to seal the holes and the seam where the snorkel enters the airbox. I have not done this yet.
They also say it is nearly indestructible. We will have to see on that one.
I like the black on my Jeep.

I'm just about convinced that nobody that posts a river raider rebuttal to the AEV snorkel ever sticks around for a response. So tired of reading the issue of aluminum vs. plastic... and how easily these snorkels will break and how the aluminum ones don't bend or dent and all that stuff.
