air tank
Ok im not good with this air tank / compressor thing so I need some help.
I have a 5gal air tank that can hold up to 120psi.... I have a compressed that pumps to 150.. I am going to rig it up in the jeep so that i can have on bored air am i going to have to monitor the gauge when I am filling the tank or is there a way that I can put a regulator to only allow the the tank to fill up to 120psi?
I know that I could probably fill the tank to 150 with out problems because the actual fail rate is probably 3x 120psi but I don't want to test that..

I have a compressor with a 2 gallon tank and am having trouble picking a spot to mount it. I could only imagine the trouble I'd have with a 5 gallon. Yes, you can get a regulator. They are real cheap. Should be able to get one at Harbor Freight for well under 20 bucks. Make that under 10.

Just get a pop off valve rated for the pressure you want . You can get them at a Napa store. All air tanks should have one installed on them. When I did my tank I put one on it and a drain cock. You can also get a electric pressure switch that would shut down your pump as soon as it gets up to the pressure you want. Hope this helps ya.

You could go with just the pop off valve...but I'd use both. With the regulator, you can infinately adjust the pressure between zero and whatever the max is. In conjunction with the pop off valve, you'll have a good safety valve that won't let the system over fill and cause damage.
Silly question, but, what if you hit a rock, or a car... head on smach... with a 2 gallon air tank at 120psi behind the bumper ? It is sitting behind the front part of the frame so it gets protection, but the frame has crushing part that will bend in a front blow... (Is it legal ?...)
