Default to align or not?? that is the question

After reading numerous posts on alignment jobs im on the fence if i want to waste the money. After my lift I centered the steering wheel myself, was stupid easy. I added control arm drop brackets to bring me back to stock angles. My Jeep tracks down the road straight as an arrow.... Do i waste my money on an alignment? from what I understand reading there is nothing they can really align other than the steering wheel which I already did? is this true?

Yup, w/out adjustable control arms, there's nothing more an alignment shop can do except maybe adjust your toe, but you said the jeep drives and tracks well. You already addressed centering the steering wheel. The drop control arms already took care of the flightiness/castor. Other than the toe which you can do yourself, the only other thing you can get from the shop is just a print out of your before and after specs...

yup...no need for an alignment unless they don't charge very much to set your toe in/out. There are many write up to do it yorself and from my experience you can get to within an 1/8".

Find a shop that does cheap/free alignment checks. Then look into it more 'if' you see a problem.

After getting adjustable ball joints and adding a lift I discovered I could influence the tires a bit more. I got the lifetime alignment option on sale at Firestone and punish them regularly for it. I usually have them check it went they do the free tire rotation or whenever I wheel hard. They tend to find all the other things I then need to "upgrade" after that. Disinterested party since they dont sell the parts and cant install them for you. It may not be absolutely necessary but they have found enough "other" issues I might have missed to pay for it.

Just installed a complete set of adjustable control arms and rear track bar. Used an angle finder on top of my ball joints to set caster. It drove great (like yours) but I took it anyway to get aligned. Everything was set dead on except the toe and it was about 1/4 turn off. So if it drives good & straight down the road I would say you were good. Unless you just need peace of mind knowing then get the computer print out.
