So, I just received my Artec Apex front axle truss for my 2017 2 door Rubicon Recon. I also have some new tires coming in and want to have an alignment after they are mounted. This will probably be a two step operation Truss one step - Tires next step (maybe a week apart perhaps.

The question is - After mounting the truss, do I need an alignment right away or can I wait a week or two for when I'm ready to mount the tires?

 

Neither tires nor truss are going to affect your alignment.....unless you just warp your tubes I guess.

 

I wasn't sure if you had to realign when you disconnect suspension components and reattach. Good to know! Thanks,

 

Nothing is changing in regard to mounting brackets on the axle so everything will be the same as before once re-installed under the rig. Also, when adding larger tires the whole vehicle might be raising but the distance between the axle and body of the jeep stays the same so alignment variables don't change. The one exception to this would be if in the process of welding the truss, the installer (you or a shop) overheats that sucker and warps the tubes, but presumably, precautions will be taken during install to manage heat.

 

I sure hope so. The fact that it's a Recon edition (with thicker tubes on the front axle) will hopefully limit this potential. I'm not a welder, but the guy I'm taking it to does this sort of thing fairly often.

 

Is it just the truss that’s being welded on? If so, I’d suggest doing the c-gussets as well. If you’re having the full kit welded on to include control arm brackets, then you may want an alignment since the control arm brackets may not put the control arms in the exact same place.

 

I thought about that, but the axle on the Recon edition is the Dana® M44/216MM which already had beefed up C's. They're quite a bit bigger than the regular ones. I thought that'd be enough for now. Regarding the truss kit, I got the Artec APEX Truss Kit which doesn't replace the shock brackets or the trac bar bracket. You mentioned the control arm brackets. Are you talking about the LCA brackets themselves or the LCA skids? I got the LCA skids but not the brackets. Would I have the same concern about the skids too?

 

If it’s just the skids then you’re fine since they don’t change anything with the mounts.
