Default All Terrain t/a Vs. Mud Terrain KM2

Well i gotta say, I can't figure out what tires I want to get.
I do hit the mud often, its not usually overly deep mud but surely 10 to 15 inches at the deepest.

I also do a lot of highway, and snow/ice driving. The majority of my driving will definetly be on the highway.

So what I'm thinking of is getting either, BFG 285/70R17 (33's) Mud Terrain KM2's, or a set of BFG 35 inch All Terrain T/A's.

I must say that I really dont want to take a huge hit in the MPG area. But the stock 32's just arent big enough for the TF 2.5 inch BB.

Anyone have any pics of the Allterrains hitting some deep mud!!!???

Any advice helps!!!

thanks

KM2 look cool, and seem to have good reviews.

I have had both. I had 33" ATs on my TJ and overall they were a good all around tire. They rode smooth and quiet. The handled sand very well, thick mud not so good. They seemed to clog up quickly.

I have 35" KM2 MT on my 08 JK now. They do great in sand and mud. Definately a rougher ride than the AT. Noise is not bad up to about 60mph. After that they get pretty loud. Again a great tire in my opinion.

Both the TJ was and the JK is a daily driver and weekend offroader. I went with the MT just because of the fact here in FL we see mud and sand offroad. I think you would be happy with either. Just depends on what your main priorites in the tire are.

I cannont comment on the snow since I am in FL.

I have have had ATs over the years and the KM2 on my JK and I couldn't be more impressed. The KM2 are very good handling on the road but still have a fair agressive tread pattern. I expected them to be alot louder at highway speed but find they generate less noise than other tires I have had with simular tread patterns.

Default all terrains

Thanks for the input guys,

I think the AT's would be great. I would just miss the agressive look of the MT's.

Hopefully my front locker will help pull me out of just about everything!!!!

Think I would lose a few MPG going to 35 At's compared to stock?

I have owned several pairs of BFG AT's. They are great on the highway, ice, snow and light trails. They are horrible in the mud. Glazed donuts They just do not like to clean out.

I just took off a set of AT's and put on my KM2's.

Like mentioned above, AT's are great, but in thick, deep mud....glazed donuts. They definitely do not self clean, and that didn't help me get unstuck...lol.
Don't get me wrong though. It's a great tire and took me places where other jeeps had to use lockers. They worked great in dirt, sand, rocks, pavement, light mud and climbing obstacles.

The KM2....I haven't had a chance to test them in mud, but so far they have great road manners. You can definitely hear a nice low hum while driving. They're not loud or annoying though. As far as looks, wow! These look really aggressive in person. It's not even a contest when it comes to looks.

bly109,...

Glazed Donuts! You are exactly right!

If you are gonna have any significant exposure to mud, the TA's, even the KO's, are not your best choice.

They are great on the road, and in many situations off road. But toss in the mud, at the depth you are stating, and you better have a buddy with a winch.
