Take a look at Toyo Open Country AT-II's, new model, a "hybrid" between MT and AT. The XTreme tread version of the AT-II looks pretty aggressive, but the few reviews out there are very positive for this tire's on-street qualities and off-road abilities.

I'm wanting to move from 35 to 37 and the two "hybrid"-style tires that seem far beyond others in terms of reviews are Duratracs and Toyo AT-II's. Neither comes in a 37; a 35 is the biggest in either tire. Ugh.

Edit: there's also the new Mickey Thompson ATZ-P3, another hybrid MT/AT design. Not many pictures of it, should be out basically any time now.

Mud bog racing today !! Didn't see a mall anywhere ? Oh yah that's a chrome grill too ! Lol ps 4sec from winning the 33 class and only 5 trucks made it through the hole and it was me on BFG ATs and the rest had super swampers ! So don't be so sure bud because u just don't know who's behind the skinny pedal. Cheers to all my fellow mudders . Also I know I would likely went faster an done better with a mt or super swamper but did go almost hood deep in mud with my ATs .and they r great on tons of Surfaces street to And wear good last a long time I've had 6 sets and never a flat tire. For me a better tire . Point being I'm far from a mall crawler I wheel hard all the time but still bought the AT .(even though it don't look as good and small minds would call me a mall crawler) Follow me we won't end up at no mall ladies. Lol

Interesting reading in here and ultimately I think it's been said... Buy tires for what type of driving you'll be doing. I basically only drive my Jeep to the trails and home. I occasionally take it out Mall Crawling just because it's so much fun to drive. If I was running mud (hate mud), or somewhere it snowed I'd still run MTs, but have them siped... IT MATTERS.

Now, does anyone have some hard core rock experience with the Toyo MTs? My KM2s are chunking off left and right. They seem to be wearing well though, just keep tearing chunks out of em.

07 Rubi U.
100,000 miles this week on original BFG M/T No aftermarket siping-rotated maybe 3 times-tire pressure as marked on the tire. Can still bury a fingernail in the treads.
I'll possibly replace in the fall of '13 on sale.
Use as highway commuter/construction site mud and snow/trail recreation always with heavy cargo. Rear seat removed when new for additional space.
Noise what noise? It's a Jeep.
Play around with whatever but these stockers WILL be replaced with same.
Driven millions of miles in my time and can recommend a few other brands but never had better service and performance than these.
Always get a chuckle out of the posts when they are replacing new tires for some other they have read about......the grass is always greener......

Not hard core here. But, I have made a couple trips to Uwharrie on mine where there are alot of sharp rocks. No sign of damage to the tread or sidewalls yet.

My last set of tires were Nitto Terra Grappler A/T's in a 33. They were an awesome tire all around. Great handling, grabbed rocks, awesome in snow, long tread life, poor in mud. Running Hankook Dyna pro M/T's now in a 35, awesome off road, the Nitto's were much nicer on road and wore much slower. Pics of the old Nitto Terra Grappler A/T 33's:

Was thinking about something tonight... Shouldn't a mud tire have better fuel economy than an AT? Hear me out before you tell me i'm crazy; Lower rolling resistance = better fuel economy, rolling resistance = friction, MT's have ALOT less tread touching the pavement, = less friction = less rolling resistance = better fuel econ? Why doesn't this work in real life...
