Default Another Exhaust thread

I know I know, Use the search...

I did but never saw this discussed.

I have a 2011 JKU Rubi 6 speed if that makes a difference

Is is better to buy a complete Cat back "kit"

-or-

replace the muffler and have the pipes rerouted by your muffler shop.

-and - if this choice where would you have the exhaust exiting? behind the vehicle or infront of the rear axel?

I would say that replacing the entire piping and replacing the muffler (axleback) is pretty much the same. However, replacing the pipes from the cat to the back gets a tiny little more power due to the mandrel bends in the exhaust. If you look at your factory exhaust above the rear axle, you can see that it is "crushed".

And if you off road a lot, the best place to put a muffler would be under the middle of the Jeep, with a tip exiting above the bumper line in the rear like the MBRP offroad exhaust (http://w w w.quadratec.com/products/17605_1203_07.htm)

If you do not wheel and want to have a nicer sound and "look", the standard exit systems like the Gibson Dual tip, MBRP standard (what I have), dynomax, etc.... work well.

I see that you have an unlimited. It is easy to work on the unlimiteds with DIY exhaust, due to no need to relocate the evap.

IcyFridge pretty much nailed it. All I can add is that when I did my first exhaust I put a Flowmaster in the stock location behind the axle. I had the local shop replace the section that is "crimped" over the axle and supply the muffler and I think with everything out the door it was $120. I have since put a glasspack under the driver seat, relocated the evap (I have a 2-door) and ditched everything behind the axle. I like it better that way.

So there is no problem with the exhaust exiting there, rather than behind the vehicle?

I too at first had FLOWMASTER 50, but I tossed it ad went to a Magnaflow kit and am really happy I did.

Your question, exhaust exit there is fine.

The Dynomax rep on the forum is really involved and also has great systems!

Do you not need to relocate the evaporate with an unlimited when doing a crawler exhaust?
