Another fender chop question
I am about to pull the trigger on cutting my fenders since I have made so many changes to my jku this past week I just cant stop. So my question is ,is the substructure of the fender attached to the fender in any other way other than the clips on the outside edge that will be cut off? If not why keep any of the structure there after cutting ? I would think it would cause a rattle if its not attached.
The substructure is bolted with I think 10mm bolts. U will have to trim it down tho, if u don't put the trimmed sub structure back in the fenders will flap in the wind like crazy. I actually siliconed my trimmed fenders to the sub structure so they wouldn't flap. Projectjk.com has a write up on how to chop Ur fenders with lots of pics too
Thanks I think I will do that ,Iwould like to trim it down to a very minimal structure like down to where it bolts on then silicone it there,do you think that would be enough to keep flapping down to a small amout?

I trimmed the outer fenders, and kept and trimmed back the inner structure so engine bay had a degree of protection from snow slush and road grime. Flapping or not is gonna depend on the specific cut lines and amount of chop you make. When finished, my inner fenders needed a single bolt to hold and prevent them from flapping - simple to do.
Well I did it tonite after work rears are done except for door edging and im gonna bed line the exposed metal. Fronts are cut need to do final shape and cut structure and liner . Bein as Im doin it after work I should have it all done tomorrow or the next day , when Im finished I will post some pics . I am almost thinking if I work the edges enough I can get by without the edging .

It doesn't look too good without the.door trim, I tried that with mine at first. It looks soo much better with it on, but maybe get some super glue and after the trim is on, glue the trim to the fender where the curves are cuz when it summer the door trim starts to fall off.
To OP, get the beading with glue inside, and use a cheap ($20) heat gun to melt the glue to fender, and slightly melt the black beading around corners. I bought 25 feet (used it all) of1/4 Inch Door Edge Molding.
